Volunteer at a Local Charity

You can find a charity near you and call to see if they offer court ordered volunteering opportunities.

How?

Follow the steps below to go about finding an local charity to complete your court ordered hours

  1. Go to google maps
  2. Enter the search as follows “Animal shelter near 07232″. This will return a list of animal shelters in the zip-code you are interested in.
  3. Call/email them and be very specific that you are looking for volunteering opportunities to fulfill your court ordered community service requirements
  4. VERY IMPORTANT – Make sure that the organization you are contacting is a registered 501(c)(3). It would be wise to check their status on the IRS website before you take any further steps. Instruct them that you will be needing a official letter from them, signed and with the following information:
    1. Name and EIN of the charity and a statement that it is a registered 501(c)(3) organization
    2. Mission of the charity
    3. What tasks did you perform
    4. How many hours did you complete
    5. Who was your supervisor
    6. Contact information for the charity in case the judge wants to contact them
